Respect for the Constitution and the law is extremely important for the implementation of the rule of law and Montenegro's European path, and the Supreme Court will always be a partner on that path, said the President of that court, Valentina Pavličić.
She said this during a meeting with a delegation from the Venice Commission (VC), led by the body's director, Simona Granata Mengini.
As announced by the Supreme Court, Pavličić emphasized that, due to the implementation of the rule of law and Montenegro's European path, it is extremely important to respect the laws and the Constitution.
She added that the Supreme Court will always be a partner on this journey.
The Supreme Court said that the VK delegation also included experts appointed to draft an opinion on Montenegro: Filip Dimitrov, Ejrik Holmojvik and Khagani Guliyev.
The meeting, as they stated, discussed the role of regular courts, as well as status issues of all judges in Montenegro, including pension rights.
"Case law, when it comes to decisions on meeting the conditions for the termination of a judicial office based on fulfilling the conditions for exercising the right to retire, before all Montenegrin courts, including the Supreme Court, is completely uniform," said Pavličić.
Granata thanked Mengini for the meeting, which, as announced, was held with the aim of obtaining a clearer picture of current issues in the field of the rule of law in Montenegro.
She said she expects cooperation with the Supreme Court to continue.
"The meeting at the Supreme Court was organized as part of a two-day visit of the Supreme Court delegation to the national institutions of Montenegro," the statement said.
