Montenegrin students who study abroad most often choose European countries - Great Britain, Germany, France and Italy, the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation told "Vijesti".
There are also those, the department says, who attend prestigious institutions in the United States of America (USA).
"Students are predominantly educated in fields such as medicine, engineering, information technology, economics and social sciences. Most of the scholarship holders have previously studied at the University of Montenegro, and there are also those who come from the University of Donja Gorica (UDG), the University of the Mediterranean and the Adriatic. This diversity shows that the system recognizes talent regardless of the institution it comes from," they said.
This department is providing scholarships to 134 students. However, they point out that more than 1.000 Montenegrin university students applied for the scholarship competition.
"Therefore, currently 134 Montenegrin students enjoy the privilege of scholarships and have the opportunity to study at prestigious universities around the world. This figure not only testifies to the quality of the Montenegrin education system and the strategic support of the state, but also to the exceptional results of young people who compete side by side with the best at the global level," said the Ministry of Education and Science, adding that "this speaks to the success of educational programs in Montenegro that enable young people to adopt the best practices and knowledge in their fields."
As "Vijesti" previously wrote, more than 60 students from the University of Montenegro (UCG) are acquiring knowledge at almost 30 higher education institutions in Europe through the "Erasmus+" program. Through this program, students are enabled to spend one or two semesters on exchange at one of the 190 universities with which the UCG has signed agreements.
The Ministry says that scholarship holders are achieving notable results at world universities. They also remind that most of them come from the University of Montenegro, but that "there are also students from other higher education institutions in Montenegro."
"They not only achieve high grades in exams, but also often win awards for academic achievement, research or innovative projects. Feedback from their mentors and professors indicates their high level of commitment and knowledge, which makes them ambassadors of their country in academic circles," the Ministry of Education and Science said.
They remind that the education department maintains communication with students through the Directorate for International Cooperation, but also that administrative support is available to scholarship holders.
"As well as monthly scholarships in the amount of 300 euros, as well as the possibility of participating in additional professional development programs. The focus is not only on financial assistance, but also on creating a network of future leaders and the reintegration of their knowledge into the Montenegrin system. The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation will continue to provide support to students in the future so that they can return to their country with the knowledge they have acquired after completing their studies," they said.
The education ministry points out that "the new Article 133 of the Draft Law on Higher Education represents a special step forward towards the systemic valorization of academic excellence."
"Which introduces a scholarship for excellence for students who enroll in studies at universities ranked among the top 50 in the world according to the Shanghai List, US News and Times Higher Education rankings. These scholarships will be financed from a special Fund for Excellence in Higher Education, which is formed from the budget of Montenegro, EU funds and other sources. The conditions, amount and procedure for awarding scholarships are prescribed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation," said the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation.
