Female journalists, like all women in public spaces, must be protected from any form of harassment, insults and threats, said the Women's Association of the Europe Now Movement.
"Regarding the attack on Gradska TV journalist Magdalena Čelanović, the Women's Association of the Europe Now! Movement expresses its strongest condemnation of any form of violence, harassment and belittling of women, especially those who perform responsible tasks in the public interest," the statement reads.
They say that freedom of speech and the right to decent work are fundamental and guaranteed rights for every citizen of Montenegro.
"The Women's Association of the Europe Now! Movement expresses full solidarity with the attacked journalist and appeals to the competent institutions to react urgently and decisively, and to sanction every form of violence against women in accordance with the law. We also remind you that as a society we must create an atmosphere of mutual respect, tolerance and support, especially towards those who professionally contribute to democratic processes," it was announced.
