Human Rights Action welcomed the efficient prosecution of the VP doctor who was reported by Gradska TV journalist Magdalena Čelanović for insults, threats and harassment.
They say that the journalist was advised to report the first case of verbal sexist violence, and that in the meantime there have been several similar messages.
"Such sexist behavior and persecution is completely unacceptable and we expect it to be adequately sanctioned. Women who have the courage to speak out publicly are not 'clay pigeons'! We warn that journalists are specially protected by criminal legislation," the statement reads.
HRA also expects the Medical Chamber and the Clinical Center to protect the dignity of the medical profession and condemn inappropriate behavior by doctors.
"We call on all women exposed to this and similar sexist violence to report it! The Police Directorate announced yesterday that it 'strongly condemns all forms of offensive, threatening and inappropriate behavior towards media employees, especially behavior that insults the dignity of women employed in the journalism profession. The police, within its jurisdiction, take non-selective measures and actions as a priority in relation to all persons whose behavior endangers security, integrity and the right to free and objective expression and reporting in order to create a safe environment for the life and work of media employees'," the statement reads.
