The Medical Doctors' Union of Montenegro said that sexism, disrespect and any form of unethical behavior have no place "neither in our society nor in our profession."
"We strongly condemn the unacceptable communication that a doctor expressed towards a journalist, which rightly caused strong negative reactions from the public. Such behavior is completely incompatible with the ethics, dignity and responsibility that the medical profession implies. We hereby clearly emphasize that the controversial comments did not occur in the context of providing healthcare or within the framework of professional duties, but are the exclusive responsibility of the individual. As a profession, we distance ourselves from such behavior and remind you that the medical profession is based on respect for every person, without exception," the statement reads.
They say that one inappropriate act cannot and must not cast a shadow over thousands of honorable doctors who defend the dignity of their profession every day with their expertise and dedication.
"We leave it to the competent authorities to sanction this case in accordance with applicable codes and regulations, with a clear message that sexism, disrespect and any form of unethical behavior have no place in our society or in our profession," the Union announced.
