The Government of Montenegro has authorized the Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development, Damjan Ćulafić, and the Minister of Culture and Media, Tamara Vujović, to sign a Letter of Support to establish cooperation with the National Geographic organization.
As announced by the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development (MERS), the Government has adopted the Information on the signing of the Letter that should be sent to the representative of National Geographic magazine, Gregory McGruder.
It is stated that sending a joint Letter of Support with the aim of establishing cooperation with the National Geographic organization was agreed upon at a meeting between Vujović and Ćulafić at the end of last year.
"Mack Gruder is the director of global special events at National Geographic, creating programs that emphasize research and teamwork to advance the National Geographic organization," MERS explained, adding that Mac Gruder is currently vice president of the board of the DC Environmental Film Festival (DCEFF).
The government department pointed out that the founder and director of the Green Montenegro International Film Fest (GMIFF), Blagota Marunović, met Mac Gruder during a visit to DCEFF in Washington in March last year and that this conversation created the possibility of establishing cooperation between Montenegro and National Geographic.
"The Letter emphasizes that cooperation with a respected organization, such as National Geographic, would be of enormous importance to Montenegro," the MERS statement said.
The document, as announced, also adds that it would be a good idea to take the opportunity to invite McGruder and his delegation to visit Montenegro.
"Which would be an excellent opportunity for us to explore potential avenues of cooperation, including the production of documentary films and TV programs in our country, the possibility of establishing a National Geographic office in Montenegro, the establishment of a National Geographic Magazine Montenegro, and similar initiatives of mutual interest," the document says.
It was emphasized that Montenegro is an excellent film destination and "an open-air film studio consisting of picturesque nature and beauty."
"The arrival of the National Geographic delegation would provide Montenegro with the opportunity to showcase its potential and natural environment, thereby introducing them to the possibilities and advantages of filming in our country," the document states.
As it is emphasized, Montenegro has great potential through national parks, nature parks and protected areas, some of which are under the protection of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
"Thus, we would promote the rich biodiversity, natural potential, as well as the cultural heritage of our country," the Letter concludes.
