Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, the Food Safety Administration, the Specialist Veterinary Laboratory, the Veterinary Chamber of Montenegro, the Agricultural Cluster of Montenegro and veterinarians held a meeting to discuss the potential outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, which has already been registered in the region.
"The participants agreed that it is necessary to urgently take measures to prevent the disease from entering Montenegro. The need for increased border control, the introduction of quarantine measures and consideration of a ban on the import of live animals from affected areas was emphasized. Special attention is paid to educating livestock farmers and the general public about the risks posed by this disease, as well as organizing professional lectures and guest appearances by veterinarians in the media," reads a press release signed by the president of the Agricultural Cluster, Boško Miličić.

As stated, one of the topics was the replacement of existing ear tags, and the meeting presented an improved model of tags that should solve previously observed problems, such as the loss of head identification and delays in issuing duplicates.
"It was concluded that the quality of ear tags is essential for the functioning of the livestock identification and insemination system. The participants emphasized that they are ready to act together through the formation of a broader infectious disease team and take all necessary measures to protect the health of domestic animals and preserve livestock production. Animal health is a pillar of food safety and sustainable development of livestock farming, let us act preventively and responsibly," said Miličić.
