Europe Day will be marked in Nikšić on Friday with numerous activities. The Ministry of European Affairs and the Municipality of Nikšić, with the support of the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro, through the EU4ME project, are organizing a ceremony called "European Tour - Games without Borders", from 10 am to 13:30 pm at several locations in Nikšić.
"The full-day program is dedicated to the promotion of European values, volunteerism, sports and the active participation of young people in social life," the announcement states.
The event begins at 10 a.m. at the Bedem Fortress with a volunteer green campaign for children "Teach me how to garden", with informal speeches by officials.
At 11 a.m. on Freedom Square, the Mayor of Nikšić Municipality Marko Kovačević, Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorčević, Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Dialogue Naida Nišić, as well as Gianandrea Villa, Program Manager at the EU Delegation to Montenegro, will officially open the "Games Without Borders", in which students from four primary schools will compete: "Ratko Žarić", "Mileva Lajović Lalatović", "Olga Golović" and "Milija Nikčević".
At 12:2030, at the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center Tehnopolis, a conference on the topic "European Capital of Culture and EU Integration" will be held, dedicated to European values, cultural policies and international cooperation, organized by the Nikšić XNUMX - European Capital of Culture Initiative Office. The event will be opened by Minister Maida Gorčević, and the introductory part of the conference will be addressed by Đanandrea Vila and Marko Kovačević.
"The program will continue with a presentation of the Belgian cities that are candidates for the title of European Capital of Culture 2030, which will be addressed by Fatima Zibu, Commissioner of the Molenbeek project for Brussels 2030, and Katrin Kops, coordinator of the Leuven 2030 project. After the representatives of the Belgian cities, there will be a presentation of the Polish cities that were finalists in last year's competition for the title of ECOC, and which will hold the title of Polish Capital of Culture in the coming years. The presentation will be addressed by Edita Ruta, representative of the city of Bielsko-Biała, as well as Ilona Gredas-Vojtovicz and Michal Merczinski, representatives of the city of Kołobrzeg. This will be followed by a presentation by an expert in the field of ECOC and former Minister of Culture of North Macedonia, Robert Alagjozovski. The conference is open to all cultural actors and interested citizens, and the presentations of the cities will be held in English," the press release reads.
A tour of the newly opened "EU and the Dots" in the Municipality building is planned, and from 13 to 13:30 p.m. on Freedom Square, awards will be presented to the winners of the "Games without Borders".
As part of the evening program, at 18 p.m., a concert will be held in the concert hall of the “Dara Čokorilo” Music School, featuring performances by students and teachers from the school, and the repertoire will include works by famous European composers. The concert is organized in cooperation with the “Matera 2019 – European Capital of Culture” Foundation. At the beginning of the concert, Rita Orlando will address the “Matera 2019” Foundation via video link, while the program will be opened by the Mayor of Nikšić.
In cooperation with Bedem Fest, the next day, May 10, the celebration of Europe Day will move to the Bedem Fortress. Bedem Fest, in cooperation with the Adam Mickijevicz Institute, is organizing the official cultural program of Poland on the occasion of the Polish presidency of the Council of the EU. At 12:20, a discussion will be organized at the fortress on the valorization of European cultural heritage, which is this year's focus of the European Union, and representatives of the Adam Mickijevicz Institute and other guests, representatives of creative cities from Europe, will also participate. At XNUMX:XNUMX, a concert will be organized at the fortress by two Polish bands, "Hosi" and "Almeda" and the Podgorica rapper Random.
