The President of SOBNOR of Montenegro, Radojica Radojević, congratulated the Victory Day over Fascism and Europe Day and emphasized that this date is marked in memory of hundreds of thousands of civilians and soldiers who died in the battles for the liberation of Europe, Montenegro and our city.
"This date reminds us of the magnificent victory of the anti-Hitler coalition over the greatest evil in the history of mankind - fascism. May 9th is a symbol of the heroism and unity of the peoples who defended the world from fascism and a day when we remember with special reverence all those who gave their lives to defend humanity and elementary civilizational values," he said.
Our people and our country were in that front of the brave, honorable and determined, added Radojević, emphasizing that for this reason, even today, we proudly remember Montenegro's role in the anti-fascist coalition and our contribution to humanity's great victory over Nazism.
"Inspired by the determination to defend their enslaved homeland to the last, inspired by a deep faith in the victory of their just cause, the fighters of our army have dealt merciless and fierce blows to the common enemy since 1941. Their immortal deeds will live forever in the hearts of our peoples and their future generations...
"For those victories, the best sons and daughters of Montenegro gave their lives, showing how to love one's homeland. We owe the freedom we have today to these victims and their courage, and for that, even today, we express our deepest gratitude to them," concluded Radojević.
European Union: Anti-fascism is not just a historical value, but a living and necessary idea today
The European Union congratulated Europe Day and Victory over Fascism Day and said that they continue to resolutely advocate the values of anti-fascism, freedom, equality and solidarity, which lead us towards a more just society and a European future.
"Today, as we mark May 9th - Europe Day and Victory over Fascism Day, we remember the historic struggles and victories that shaped the foundation of modern Europe - free, democratic and united in diversity.
"This day is a powerful reminder of the sacrifice of millions of people who fought against the darkest ideology of the 20th century, fascism, and of the obligation of all of us to be guardians of freedom, justice and the dignity of every human being," the European Union said in a statement.
This coalition said that as a non-partisan entity that inherits the values of anti-fascism, solidarity, and European unity, they proudly stand with those who gave their lives for freedom and the right of peoples to live in peace.
"Antifascism is not just a historical value, but a living and necessary idea today - at a time when, faced with increasingly present hate speech, glorification of Chetnik and other dark movements, revisionism and threats to democracy, we must clearly and decisively defend the achievements of civilization and civic Montenegro," the statement concludes.
The European Union delegation today laid a wreath at the Monument to the Partisan Fighter in Gorica on the occasion of May 9, Victory over Fascism Day.
Odžić: At a time when anti-fascism is being put to the test, this date must take on even greater significance
"On this day in 1942, the national hero Ljubo Čupić was shot. No history textbook can be imagined without him. No story about the resistance of the people. No ballad about death for the sake of life. His photograph from the shooting range has traveled the world. His smile has been admired by generations. Without that smile, our history textbooks would be poorer, many would not know how to defy death and how to laugh in the face of the enemy...", stated Petar Odžić, deputy president of the SDP and representative of the European Union, on the Iks website.
"In times when anti-fascism is being put to the test, when some right-wing politicians, aided by religious fanatics, are putting fascism and Chetniks on the same level as liberators and patriots, this date must take on even greater significance," he added.
Our ancestors, Odžić notes, died to make a clear distinction between good and evil.
"Rivers of blood flowed so that fascism could be defeated. The five-pointed star and the cockade have never been and can never be the same! Let us never forget what we were, what we are now and what our children will be! Happy Victory Day, death to fascism - freedom to the people," said Odžić.

"On the occasion of May 9th - Europe Day and Victory over Fascism Day, on behalf of the Parliament of Montenegro and on my own behalf, I extend my sincere congratulations to all citizens of Montenegro," said the Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Boris Pejović.

The President of the Municipality of Šavnik, Jugoslav Jakić, sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism and Europe Day.
"On this day, we proudly recall the heroism of generations who, in the fight against fascism, won freedom and laid the foundations of modern values on which we still build a society today - free, just and democratic. Montenegro was on the right side of history in that fight," said Jakić.
At the same time, as he said, Europe Day reminds us of the importance of togetherness, solidarity and peace.
"Our European future is not just a strategic goal, but a natural continuation of the path we should take, through respect for human rights, justice and equality. I believe that, by preserving the anti-fascist heritage and working dedicatedly on European integration, we will build a state tailored to the needs of every citizen - a modern, open and prosperous Montenegro," he said.

Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Zdenka Popović congratulated May 9, Victory Day over Fascism and Europe Day.
"On this day, we proudly recall the glorious anti-fascist struggle of the people of Montenegro. The spark of freedom, ignited on July 13, 1941, grew into a flame of resistance that reached its peak on May 9, 1945, illuminating the whole of Europe with the victory over the evil of fascism. Today, we pay deep respect to all our fighters and heroes who, guided by the ideals of freedom and justice, have woven their lives into the foundations of our future. Among them is Ljubo Čupić, a symbol of steadfastness, courage and faith in freedom, who went into eternity with a smile on his face, leaving us an unforgettable lesson of dignity and resistance. Such heroes do not belong only to Montenegro, but to all of humanity," said Popović.
He adds that May 9th is also celebrated as Europe Day, a day of peace, unity and common values that we share with the peoples of the European continent.

"On this day, we proudly recall the struggle of our ancestors who, by raising the July 1941th Uprising in 75, were among the first in enslaved Europe to rise up against fascism. Their courage, defiance and unwavering faith in freedom built Montenegro into the foundations of victory over totalitarianism and remain a lasting value of our identity. Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development Damjan Ćulafić congratulated May 9th - Europe Day and Victory over Fascism Day.
"This day reminds us not only of the historical struggle of our ancestors for peace, but also of the contemporary obligation of all of us to preserve that peace through a responsible attitude towards nature and the environment. Bogdanović: There is no modern state without truth
The head of the Democratic Party's parliamentary group and secretary general, Boris Bogdanović, said that on this day, 80 years ago, Europe was liberated.
"The idea that hatred can rule the continent has also been liberated. The future has been liberated and sealed with the blood of those who knew that freedom is a choice and an obligation. That is why today, when we celebrate Europe Day, we celebrate the continent that raised from the ashes the most powerful idea of our time: that no difference is a reason for war, that human dignity is above politics, and that peace is not assumed, but built," said Bogdanović.
He added that this is why Montenegro remembers and respects him.
"Remember the sons and daughters who stood up against fascism. Remember the partisans, the camp inmates, the executed and the persecuted. Remember the day when we stood on the side of humanity, not power. And therefore, as peoples who made a huge contribution to the anti-fascist struggle and who today stand by European values, we say: There is no modern state without truth. And there is no Europe if we turn our backs on it when it is most difficult," said Nenezić.
Nenezić: Anti-fascist values have never been threatened in Montenegro like today

"This is another opportunity to remember the glorious and libertarian tradition of our ancestors who, on May 9, 1945, were on the right side of history, on the side of the progressive forces of humanity in general. They gave their lives, their youth so that we could live today in a society that should inherit values such as solidarity, mutual respect and appreciation of the uniqueness of all citizens of Montenegro. Their sacrifice will always be the inspiration for our aspiration for our Montenegro to become part of a modern, developed and anti-fascist European Union, but above all, for us as a society to become mature for that step forward," said Nenezić.

We must be aware that there can be no compromises with anyone who directly or indirectly promotes the revision of Montenegro's libertarian history, their messages of peace and reconciliation are not sincere, they are only there to cover up the insincere and fatal intention that fascism carries within itself. We should not forget those who, in order to gain political support to remain in their armchairs, remain silent or criticize lukewarmly; they should be reminded of the fact that the only condition for evil to triumph is that good does nothing," said Nenezić..
