The Ministry of Interior received 87 sets of outdoor firefighting equipment from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Montenegro, with a total value of over 50.000 euros.
This assistance was presented to Minister Danilo Šaranović by UNDP Resident Representative in Montenegro Ekaterina Paniklova.
The Ministry of Interior announced that the use of this equipment further strengthens the operational capacities of the Montenegrin protection and rescue system, contributing to the safety of citizens and the protection of property and natural resources.
Šaranović expressed his gratitude to UNDP and pointed out the multiple significance of this support.
"This equipment is not just a material resource, but a direct investment in the lives and safety of our firefighters, who are the first line of defense in fighting fires. Prevention is more important than reaction, and this support for our capacities comes at a crucial time," he said.
The protection and rescue system is entering this fire season much more prepared – with four operational firefighting aircraft, the minister added.
"This is not only a strengthening of the operational readiness of our protection and rescue system, but also a confirmation of the strong commitment of our UNDP partners to strengthening the resilience of Montenegrin society," said Šaranović.
Paniklova emphasized that this initiative is yet another proof of commitment to strengthening partnerships with Montenegrin institutions:
"For us, this is not just a delivery of equipment - but a continuation of our long-standing cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Police Directorate, through which we together strengthen the capacities of the crisis response system. The equipment we deliver has not only material value - it is an investment in the safety of professionals who risk their lives every day protecting us all from natural and other disasters."
Šaranović pointed to the continuity of successful cooperation with UNDP, recalling that during 2024, the Directorate for Protection and Rescue had already received equipment worth approximately 15.000 euros. The cooperation, he pointed out, had brought concrete results in several areas - from improving planning documentation and training of personnel, to the renovation and equipping of storage and operational capacities.
"The Ministry of Internal Affairs remains committed to further strengthening the protection and rescue system, through partnerships with international organizations, as well as through national initiatives," the ministry said.
