The dangerous infectious disease brucellosis, which can be transmitted from animals to humans, was discovered on a sheep farm in the town of Bioče near Podgorica.
As reported by the RTCG portal, the Institute of Public Health has determined that the disease has spread to humans, and products from that farm are banned.
The Director of the Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Affairs Directorate, Vladimir Đaković, said that the farm where brucellosis was discovered is under strict supervision of the competent veterinary services.
"This is a confirmation of suspected brucellosis on a farm engaged in livestock production," said Đaković, adding that the inspector ordered additional veterinary testing measures.
According to Đaković, additional laboratory tests are pending.
"The farm is under strict surveillance. Any flow of animals and animal products is prevented from that farm," said Đaković.
As he pointed out, in the coming days, in accordance with the results of additional research, he will decide what the next steps are and inform the public about it.
"I think that the animals on that farm will be euthanized," said Đaković.
Brucellosis is pathogenic for humans and causes a disease often called Malta fever.
