Ivica Ignjatović, Željko Rakočević, Zoran Španjević, Radosav Joković, Milutin Karadžić, Vukoman Rovčanin, Predrag Moštrokol, Miodrag Novaković and Valentina Samardžić are the most deserving blood donors, it was announced yesterday on the occasion of Voluntary Blood Donor Day in Montenegro.
The Ministry of Health awarded them recognition for, as announced, the development of voluntary blood donation activities for the past year.
The Day of Voluntary Blood Donors in Montenegro was organized by the Red Cross, and the most active donor clubs were DDK Cagliari and DDK Plužine.
"For their professional contribution in the field of transfusion medicine, Dr. and transfusion specialist Dragan Gazivoda and transfusion specialist Danijela Mihaljević received awards. For their contribution in the field of educational and motivational work, Dejan Macanović from Nikšić, Milan Franović from Kotor and Goran Božović from Tivat were awarded. The 'Dr Simo Milošević...' Institute was also awarded," the Red Cross announced.
The director of the Blood Transfusion Institute, Marina Sekulić, emphasized that 22.000 units of blood were collected last year.
"Every blood donation is a message of support to those who need it most. Thanks to your efforts and commitment, many lives have been saved. You are not only helping, but you are encouraging society to be more humane and responsible," said Sekulić.
Director of the Directorate for Health Care Ognjen Delić told the awardees that they are "the foundation without which no health system can function."
"I would also like to take this opportunity to highlight the significant role of the Blood Transfusion Institute, whose task is to ensure the continuous work of the transfusion service and to provide sufficient quantities of safe blood, as well as the Red Cross of Montenegro, which, through organized actions and public education, contributes to the development and promotion of voluntary blood donation. Our priority in the coming period is to raise the level of voluntary blood donation, which we must all work on more intensively together."
Red Cross President Mitar Vučković said that donating blood is "one of the highest forms of solidarity between people."
"It is an act that knows no distinctions, asks for nothing in return, but gives the most valuable thing - the chance for life. State support in ensuring safe blood supplies remains crucial so that we can respond to the needs of the health system, especially in crisis and emergency situations."
