After the education, a "green" action followed: Nikšić elementary school students and volunteers planted six cedar seedlings in the school yard.

Volunteers from the NGO "Putevima predaka", together with students, also cleaned the yard, installed three eco-benches and a waste disposal basket.

How it works when "Community in Action", as the call of the Fund for Active Citizenship is called, was shown by the non-governmental association (NGO) "Paths of Ancestors" from Nikšić, with an event where they combined the beautiful and the useful - students of the "Luka Simonović" Elementary School from the town near Trebjes had the opportunity to hear more about the circular economy, and then to all "roll up their sleeves" and carry out an ecological action together. The lecture on the circular economy was given by Nada Jaredić, and the elementary school students actively participated, suggesting ways to solve the problem of plastic disposal.

"Plastic pollution is a reality we face, both globally and locally. Modern lifestyles have led to intensive plastic consumption and an increased amount of plastic waste. The problem cannot be eradicated, but it can be reduced if we apply the basic rules of the circular economy, environmental protection and sustainability," the press release states.

After the educational part, the practical part followed - in the school yard, volunteers from the NGO "Paths of the Ancestors", together with students, planted six cedar seedlings, cleaned the yard, and installed three eco-friendly benches and a waste disposal basket.

"The main goal of the project is to promote and use recycled materials in educational institutions, through the installation of eco-benches made of recycled plastic in the school yard and the improvement and creation of new green areas with potted tree seedlings. Our goal is to educate the entire local public about the basic principles of the circular economy and how recycled materials can become a very important raw material for obtaining modern pieces of furniture for public areas," said Ana Petrović Njegoš, project coordinator.

The same activity, which was implemented as part of the project "Recycling to Sustainable Development", will be carried out at the "Radoje Čizmović" school, in the Nikšić settlement of Ozrinići.

"This is another ecological project in a series that the Association is implementing, and it relates to the contribution to the development of the local community, to the quality of life of citizens in terms of increasing green spaces in urban areas. Although we are the first ecological country in the world, we still have a lot to do to develop ecological awareness," said Petrović Njegoš.

The project "Recycling to Sustainable Development", worth three thousand euros, which aims to strengthen civic participation and community initiatives that promote inclusive governance and economic and social development, was implemented through the "Supported=Empowered" program implemented by the Fund for Active Citizenship - fAKT, in partnership with the Foundation for Local Community Development "Slagalica" from Croatia, with financial support from the European Union and co-financing from the Ministry of Public Administration.
