Supervisors of the Skadar Lake National Park seized 40 kilograms of fish this morning in the Koljen area, in the Tuzi municipality.
The National Parks (NPCG) announced that they found two foreign nationals in a metal boat fishing for fish "in pairs" in the territorial waters of Montenegro.
The protection service also registered two people in the village of Stanica in Zeta involved in illegal logging, "which was successfully suppressed."
All four people were prosecuted.
NPCG reminds that the fishing ban in the Skadar Lake Park ends today.
"In order to preserve the aquatic area and protect the area, as well as the fish stock, over the past two months, the Park Protection Service has carried out 183 patrols from land and water to prevent all forms of illegal activities. In cooperation with all competent entities involved in the professional and physical protection of the aquatic area and its values, good results have been achieved," the statement reads.
From March 15 to May 15, the Skadar Lake NP Protection Service filed 12 reports against unidentified persons with the Legal Service of the National Park of Montenegro, two reports against unidentified persons with the Basic State Prosecutor, and five reports against nine persons with the State Prosecutor's Office. During the same period, they also temporarily seized the assets used in illegal fishing, including: five vessels, three outboard motors, two inverters, seven batteries, three oars, 33 nets, eight spears, five drums, and about 70 kilograms of fish.
"In order to raise public awareness about the importance of preserving fish stocks and combating poaching, the Be Responsible – Report Poaching campaign was designed and implemented. All responsible users of the national park and nature lovers were able to report any form of illegal activity, especially when it comes to poaching, to the Monitoring Center hotline 067 000 825. Likewise, during this period, we also highlight the good cooperation with the media, which provided support to all activities of the National Park in the fight against the destruction of natural values. Educational workshops were also held in cooperation with schools in order to inform the youngest population about ways to protect and preserve fish stocks," the statement recalls.
They say that the NPCG, in cooperation with competent entities, the NGO sector and environmentally responsible individuals, continues with overall activities aimed at protecting, preserving and promoting the protected area.
