The President of the Council of the Agency for Audiovisual Media Services (AMU), Branko Bošković, has been elected Vice-President of the Executive Board of the European Platform of Regulators (EPRA).
The AMU announced that Bošković was elected at the organization's session, which is being held in Chisinau, Moldova.
As they stated, EPRA is a network that brings together media regulatory bodies from across Europe, with the aim of exchanging experiences, monitoring media trends and strengthening cooperation in the field of media regulation.
"Participation in its governing bodies carries significant responsibility, but also the opportunity to influence the strategic development of European regulatory policies," the statement said.
It is stated that the election of Bošković represents an important recognition for the Agency, but also for Montenegro, because for the first time a Montenegrin representative has been elected to the leadership of this very important international network.
"In addition, it can also be seen as a symbolic success for the entire Western Balkans, since Montenegro, as a leader in European integration, has the opportunity to contribute to regional visibility and knowledge exchange in the field of media regulation," said AMU.
As stated by the Agency, participation in the EPRA Executive Board enables not only contribution to determining the strategic directions of the network's activities, but also active involvement in defining and promoting best European practices.
"Bošković's selection comes as a result of many years of engagement in the domestic and international regulatory space, but also his knowledge of the broader social context that shapes the media environment, especially in countries that are candidates for membership in the European Union," the statement said.
It is stated that his presence in EPRA's leadership enriches that network with experiences from a region that is simultaneously facing the transitional challenges of implementing European standards.
AMU said that this year's EPRA gathering is focused on two key topics - the protection of children on the internet and social networks, with an emphasis on balancing safety and children's rights, as well as identifying best practices as the basis for quality media regulation.
They stated that the session in Moldova also has a ceremonial character, as it marks the 30th anniversary of EPRA's existence.
"The election of a representative of Montenegro to the EPRA Executive Board confirms the growing credibility of our regulatory institution and its contribution to the broader European dialogue on media freedom, media pluralism, media literacy and the response to the digital challenges of modern society," the statement said.
