The Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Montenegro has proposed that 2025 students be enrolled in the first year of undergraduate studies in the 26/155 academic year, as in previous years.
The proposal includes enrollment in the study programs: Plant Production (60 students) and Animal Production (35 students) - both in Podgorica, then the applied studies Mediterranean Fruit Growing in Bar (30 students), and Continental Fruit Growing and Medicinal Plants in Bijelo Polje (30 students).
The proposal will be submitted to the UCG Board of Directors for further adoption.
"Since 2005, the Faculty of Biotechnology has been educating experts in the field of agriculture and food production. The study programs it offers are designed to respond to the challenges of modern agricultural production - safe, high-quality and sustainable. The programs are in line with European educational standards and include academic and applied studies at the undergraduate, master's and doctoral academic levels," the UCG statement reads.
There is no entrance exam for admission to the Faculty of Biotechnology. Candidates are ranked in accordance with the Regulations on the conditions, criteria and procedure for admission to undergraduate studies at the University of Montenegro. All those who have completed high school or a four-year vocational secondary school are eligible to enroll.
"The teaching is conducted in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Declaration, and students have the opportunity for practical training in cooperation with numerous individual producers and companies from the primary production and food industry sectors. The faculty has demonstration farms in Podgorica and Bar, among which the farm in Lješkopolje stands out, with vineyards, orchards, greenhouses, a wine cellar and a collection of 442 grape varieties - one of the largest in the Balkans," it added.
The Biotechnical Faculty, according to the University of Montenegro, provides numerous laboratory services - from seed certification and quality control of wine and dairy products, to olive oil analysis and plant protection. With more than 20 signed agreements with business entities and extensive informal cooperation, they point out, the faculty provides conditions for acquiring practical knowledge and skills.
"Thanks to new technologies and available development funds, Montenegrin agriculture is rapidly modernizing, and the agro-industry is developing in all segments of processing and marketing of products of plant and animal origin. All this creates a need for professional staff and opens up numerous employment opportunities. Students of the Faculty of Biotechnology can work in state administration, the private sector, education or start their own business, especially in areas that still have great untapped potential, such as the production and processing of fruit, vegetables, meat, milk, medicinal herbs, food safety and agribusiness," the statement reads.
