Ćulafić: We are committed to fulfilling the obligations from the Reform Plan

The Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development (MERS) is committed to fulfilling the obligations of the Western Balkans Reform Plan, said the relevant Minister Damjan Ćulafić.

As announced by MERS, he met with Valentina Superti, Director for the Western Balkans in the Directorate for Enlargement and Eastern Neighborhood (DG ENEST).

It is reported that Superti emphasized the importance of Chapter 27 for Montenegro and pointed out that joining the European Union (EU) is getting closer.

"I am glad to see that you are working hard and intensively," she said, referring to Montenegro's efforts in the field of ecology and environmental protection.

Ćulafić stated that he was satisfied with the positive assessment of Montenegro's progress, but stressed that he was aware of the scope of work ahead.

When it comes to the LIFE program, Čulafić said that it is not only an opportunity for financial support, but also for strengthening administrative capacities and accelerating integration processes.

He added that Montenegro is working intensively on harmonizing its legislation with the EU acquis, especially in the field of ecology.

Speaking about the implementation of reform agendas, Ćulafić emphasized that the Ministry is committed to fulfilling the obligations from the Reform Plan for the Western Balkans.

"All legal and by-laws, as well as strategies, are being aligned with EU guidelines, and we are also satisfied with the dynamics of receiving feedback from the European Commission," said Ćulafić.

He informed Superti about the current status of measures for the Monitoring, Tracking, Verification and Accreditation System (MRV), as well as progress regarding the Air Quality Management Strategy and the Climate Change Law.

Superti, as announced, emphasized the importance of continuous communication.

"I want to encourage you on this path, because close cooperation is needed in order to successfully close Chapter 27," said Superti.

Ćulafić, as reported, stressed the importance of a common vision when it comes to environmental protection and expressed his readiness to continue intensive cooperation with the EU on all key issues in the field of ecology and sustainable development.
