The Center for Science and Clinical Center (KCCG) will organize lectures on Monday on the occasion of World Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Day, the health institution announced.
As they stated, World IBD Day is celebrated every year on May 19th with the aim of raising awareness about chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
The KCCG said that this year, this important date in Montenegro is being marked under the slogan "IBD knows no borders, stigmas can and should be broken!".
"On this occasion, as part of continuing medical education, the Science Center with the Department of Gastroenterohepatology of the Internal Clinic and the Institute for Children's Diseases are organizing lectures that will be held on Monday," the statement says.
The lectures, as stated by the KCCG, will be held in the amphitheater of the Institute for Children's Diseases, starting at 13 p.m.
"The Director of the Science Center, Brigita Smolović, will give a welcoming speech and an introduction to the topic of the event, after which the President of the Montenegrin Association for Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, Milica Popović, will speak about the experiences and challenges faced by sufferers," the statement says.
The KCCG said that internist-gastroenterohepatologist from the Internal Clinic, Damir Muhović, will give a lecture on different perspectives and overcoming taboos in IBD.
"While pediatrician-gastroenterohepatologist at the Institute for Children's Diseases Veselinka Đurišić will speak about IBD in the pediatric population and its impact on quality of life, as well as the specifics of diagnostics and treatment in children with IBD," the statement said.
World IBD Day, it is added, provides an opportunity to raise awareness about this increasingly present and very serious health issue.
"Only together, through open conversation, can we break taboos about IBD and its impacts on the lives of patients, especially children," the KCCG said.
They said that, as a sign of support for those suffering from inflammatory bowel diseases, the Capital City Assembly, the Municipality building, the Millennium Bridge and the KCCG will be illuminated in purple - a symbol of support for those suffering from the disease all over the world.
"This year, in order to increase the visibility and importance of the problems faced by people with inflammatory bowel diseases, Montenegro has joined the long list of countries marking that date on the map of the European Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis Association for the first time," the statement said.
