A statement on the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) website regarding the session of the Holy Synod of Bishops states that Metodije has become a member of the Holy Synod, but he is still referred to as the Bishop of Budimlje-Niksic. The statement does not clarify whether Metodije has been given the title of Metropolitan of Budimlje-Niksic.
Sources close to the Patriarchate told "Vijesti" on Saturday that Methodius was granted the title of metropolitan by decision of the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church.
According to the same information, the eparchy did not receive the status of a Metropolis, but rather the bishop of the Eparchy of Budimlje-Niksic received the title of metropolitan.

The Serbian Orthodox Church Assembly elected Metodije as Bishop of Budimlje-Niksic in May 2021, and he was enthroned in September of that year.
Metropolitan Metodije, born in 1976 in Sarajevo, was tonsured a monk in 2004 at the Cetinje Monastery, and was ordained a bishop in 2018. He was enthroned as the head of the Eparchy of Budimlje-Niksic in 2021 at the Đurđevi Stupovi Monastery in Berane.
