The Ministry of Public Administration (MPA) plays a key role in adopting demanding standards in cybersecurity, by strengthening its capacities and cooperating with allies, said the relevant Minister Maraš Dukaj.

He made this statement at the opening of the first two-day regional dialogue on building cyber capacity in the Western Balkans, organized by the Western Balkans Cyber Capacity Center in cooperation with the World Economic Forum.

Dukaj, as announced by the MPA, said that by exchanging knowledge and applying good practices, competencies are improved and cybersecurity of the entire region is raised.

He thanked the organizers, stating that this and similar gatherings are a chance to remain competitive in knowledge and skills in the field of cybersecurity.

"MPA plays a key role in adopting demanding standards in the field of cybersecurity, through strengthening its capacities and cooperation with allies. Since the cyber attack of 2022, when we were completely unprepared, we have managed to elevate Montenegro to a much higher level of cybersecurity," Dukaj emphasized.

Cyber threats, as he pointed out, are increasingly complex and artificial intelligence is rapidly affecting cybersecurity, so the cybersecurity of Montenegro and all allies must be viewed from that perspective.

"We are also eagerly awaiting the Government's decision to appoint the acting director of the Cybersecurity Agency, which, along with the Government's CIRT, will play a key role in the national cyber ecosystem," said Dukaj.

He added that the MPA has created all the prerequisites for the formation of this agency.

Dukaj said that numerous obligations lie ahead, primarily in the implementation of the Law on Information Security, as well as from the Growth Plan.

He pointed out the contribution of the MPA in withdrawing financial resources from the Growth Plan, by fulfilling several indicators, and emphasized that work is being done to fulfill new indicators while respecting the required deadlines.

"Our vision is clear - we are building a safer digital world for all of us. By exchanging knowledge and applying good practices, we are improving competencies, raising the cybersecurity of the entire region, because cyber attacks know no borders," said Dukaj.

The press release states that the workshop brought together numerous international experts and key regional stakeholders who will jointly analyze the challenges facing the region and define concrete and applicable solutions through interactive workshops.

"International cooperation with renowned organizations, such as the World Economic Forum, emphasizes Montenegro's role as a regional center for cyber capacity building," the statement said.
