Residents of Beogradska Street in Podgorica will not allow a residential and commercial building to be built on the green area.
This was, among other things, said by the residents and locals of Beogradska Street during the protest that began at 17.30:XNUMX p.m.
One of the residents and locals of that street, Sreten Radović, said that the citizens gathered because work and excavations had begun on the plot and green area behind the Ziya Hotel the previous week.
"We gathered here, even though the investors were told long ago to stop work in this part of the city. Despite that, they showed up last week and started working," Radović said.
He said that he is very concerned about the trend of unplanned construction on green areas.
"The city center is already overcrowded and projects like this threaten to make it dysfunctional. The city is critically polluted in the winter months. Residents of this neighborhood are forced to fight to ensure that their quality of life is not impaired."
He instructed the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Urbanism and State Property to revise the DUP "Nova Varoš 2".
"As well as registering this area as a green area. We expect that the investor will abandon the construction of the facility, and a possible solution is another location. If the investor starts work again, we will call the building inspectorate," he added.
The protest was also joined by Podgorica's Deputy Mayor Nađa Ljiljanić, who called on the investor to respect the law and procedures. She said that this is "a problem that goes beyond politics," and that an adequate solution needs to be found.
Nevena Petković (Center for Bird Protection and Study) said that it is worrying that they have to reiterate how important it is to protect urban green locations in the city.
"It is of utmost importance that we preserve every micro green location. If the protests continue, we will provide assistance until the competent institutions provide adequate support," said Petković, adding that "there is no place for such projects in urban areas."
