We are pleased to inform the public that the Environmental Protection Agency of Montenegro has made an official decision to suspend the disposal and storage of waste at the Mostina temporary landfill in Rožaje, said Denis Murić from the non-governmental association (NGO) "Promjene".
He assessed that the decision represents a historic victory for the protection of the environment and the health of the residents of that area, and is the result of years of struggle by the local community, environmental activists, and all those who persistently demanded the closure of this, as he said, ecological black spot.
"As a representative of a group of citizens and president of the NGO 'Changes', I owe gratitude to my comrades. I owe great gratitude to those wonderful people who work at the Environmental Protection Agency, who were at our service at every moment, who were maximally involved in this process and showed professionalism, responsibility and willingness to act in the interests of citizens. We also express our gratitude to the Minister of Ecology, Mr. Damjan Ćulafić, who finally recognized that this landfill must be closed and supported the solution that means a new stage for Rožaje and the surrounding area.
We thank everyone who was part of this long process — citizens, NGOs, media, lawyers, experts, local and state institutions. This is a shared victory!
"We continue to monitor further steps regarding the closure and rehabilitation of the Mostina site, and we will continue to be the voice of nature, the voice of the people and justice," concluded Murić.
