Knowledge of French, as one of the key languages of international diplomacy, science, culture and economy, represents an important segment of the education of young people in Montenegro, said the Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, Anđela Jakšić Stojanović.
She said this today at a meeting with the French Ambassador to Montenegro, Anne-Marie Maske.
The main topic of the conversation, as announced by the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MESI), was the Administrative Agreement concluded between the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and the MESI.
The agreement, signed on March 14, relates to the promotion and institutional support of French language teaching in the Montenegrin education system.
"The agreement aims to improve the quality and accessibility of French language teaching in primary and secondary schools, as well as at the university level, through strengthening the capacities of teaching staff, developing modern curricula and providing teaching materials in cooperation with French partners," the MoE said in a statement.
They stated that, in addition, during the meeting, the strategic intention of Montenegro to acquire the status of an associate member of the International Organization of La Francophonie in the near future was also discussed, which would further affirm the country's commitment to its multilateral and cultural dimension.
In this context, the interlocutors exchanged opinions on further steps in promoting the French language, Francophone culture and values through the Montenegrin education system.
It is stated that Jakšić Stojanović emphasized that knowledge of the French language, as one of the key languages of international diplomacy, science, culture and economics, represents an important segment of the education of young people in Montenegro.
She emphasized that learning French contributes to the internationalization of education, opening doors to European and global universities and labor markets, and strengthening cultural and academic cooperation with Francophone countries.
Jakšić Stojanović stated that the French language is not only a means of communication, but also a bridge to the broad international community with which Montenegro wants to deepen cooperation.
"In that sense, this agreement represents a significant step towards building an education system that is focused on international cooperation, linguistic diversity, and the development of intercultural competences among our students," said Jakšić Stojanović.
Maske, as reported, expressed satisfaction with the intensification of cooperation between the two countries in the field of education and Francophonie, confirming France's readiness to continue supporting the development of French language teaching and joint educational projects in Montenegro.
