The five-member Čujović family lives in extremely difficult conditions in a dilapidated family house in Nikoljac, Bijelo Polje, and the youngest of three children, who is nine years old, has autism.
Without basic material resources and in a cramped space, they do not even have enough to feed their children, which is why they appealed to people of good will to help them, because they are unable to do it themselves.
"We live in severe poverty, and we use a 25 square meter space for housing our family of five. My husband works as an auxiliary worker, and was previously registered with the Labor Bureau as a person with a disability. From our income, we have a personal disability allowance for the child, child allowances, and a custodial parent allowance," said Biljana Gordić Čujović.
She explained that due to the illness of her boy, Kristijan, who has autism, she is unable to work because she has to be constantly present next to him and take care of him, and that due to his education, she has to be near the school.
"Sometimes I get called from school, where he often only stays for 20 minutes, to pick him up, but lately he's been staying for one or two hours," said Biljana.
It is focused on preventing the child from having seizures, from hitting themselves, and calming them down...
"He can't even turn around in that space. It's not safe for him. My child asks me for something to eat or something sweet, I can't afford anything for him. I can't watch the child struggle anymore," she said.
The family needs food, shoes, and clothes. The beds are broken and, from the leaking roof, everything is in poor condition, and to repair the minimal damage, they took out a loan that they have to repay over the next three years, which has further impoverished them.
They appealed to companies and all people of good will to help them, so that Kristijan, who needs normal living conditions to function, could live better.

"Upon learning about the difficult social situation of the Čujović family, the Municipality of Bijelo Polje reacted immediately. I sent a letter to the municipal Red Cross organization, which went to the field as soon as possible and provided first aid. Tomorrow, the family will be delivered food and hygiene packages worth a total of 300 euros, as well as a one-time cash assistance of 200 euros. In direct communication with the mother, additional needs were identified, including beds for children, and two new beds were purchased, which will also be delivered as soon as possible," said the Mayor of the Municipality of Bijelo Polje, Petar Smolović.
In the coming days, appropriate clothing and footwear for the children will be provided, with further coordination with the family.
The Secretary of the Municipal Red Cross Organization, Mašan Živković, has had several conversations with the mother and will continue to monitor the development of the situation.
"The Municipality of Bijelo Polje and the Red Cross will continue to monitor the situation of the Čujović family in the coming period, and further assistance steps will be aligned with the specific needs and complex family situation, in order to provide the best possible response to the existing challenges," said Smolović.
