Active participation of young people is necessary for creating a purposeful and sustainable youth policy, it was assessed at a meeting between the Minister of Sports and Youth, Dragoslav Šćekić, and representatives of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

Ščekić spoke today with the OSCE Special Envoy for the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda, Santeri Leinonen, and the meeting was attended by the Director of the Directorate for Youth and Cooperation with NGOs, Darko Stojanović, and the Head of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro, Jan Haukason.

As announced by the Ministry of Sports and Youth, during the meeting, the position of young people in Montenegro and across Europe was discussed, as well as the possibilities and opportunities for improving youth policies.

It is stated that Šćekić introduced the interlocutors to the Ministry's work in the field of improving the position of youth, as well as to the activities that the department carries out independently, but also those that it supports as a partner.

Šćekić said that the position of young people in Montenegro is currently not at the level it is striving for.

"However, more has been done in the past two years than in the previous decade. We do not want youth policy to exist only on paper, but we are making efforts to ensure that the Government takes concrete steps in that direction," Šćekić pointed out.

He also spoke about the current Youth Strategy, the process of amending the Youth Law, as well as the Ministry's activities within the framework of regional and international cooperation.

Leinonen emphasized the importance of active participation in international and regional initiatives, emphasizing that they are crucial for the progress and better position of young people in Montenegro.

According to the Ministry, Leinonen also presented the Finnish Youth Strategy and shared experiences from its design and implementation in practice.

"The interlocutors agreed that in order to create a purposeful and sustainable youth policy, it is necessary for young people to be active participants in that process, which requires the commitment of all political actors," the statement said.

Šćekić thanked the visitors and expressed his readiness for more intensive cooperation between Montenegro and Finland, as well as the OSCE, in areas related to youth.
