Residents of Vraneš will organize a warning protest on Saturday in the town of Gorice due to, as they stated, persistent obstruction by the president of the Municipality of Bijelo Polje. Petar Smolović to implement the state project for asphalting the Tomaševo - Sokolac and Kovren - Gorice roads worth 1,7 million euros.
If the obstruction continues, the locals have announced that they will launch an initiative and referendum to separate Vraneš from the municipality of Bijelo Polje, for which they have so far collected 407 signatures from citizens.
"Due to the government's attitude over the last 30 years, during which nothing has been invested in Vraneš, and especially due to the behavior of the Mayor of the Municipality Petar Smolović, six local communities will request the separation of Vraneš," said the president of the NGO Vraneš Citizens' Association. Momo Joksimović.
Smolović previously told "Vijesti" that there was no obstruction and that it was not true that there was no investment in Vranes.
The Association claims that they are determined to, in addition to blocking the road in front of the Municipality, "bring all the cattle from Vraneš and block its work."
Momcilo Kojović said that because of everything, they had a meeting with the Minister of Public Works on behalf of the Vraneš Citizens' Association Majdom Adzovic which promised to take certain measures if President Smolović does not sign the aforementioned contract and announce a tender for all eight routes by June 25th.
Meanwhile, a meeting was held in the Municipality between Smolović and the presidents of six local communities from the area.
Smolović then said that their goal is to fairly distribute what belongs to the Municipality in the capital budget for 19 kilometers of roads at the municipal level, in accordance with the needs of all local communities. He proposed that the funds allocated for these two road routes be fairly distributed to other villages in the Vranje Valley.
In a statement, the Association states that the citizens of Sokolac (408 signatures) and the citizens of Gorice, from 37 houses, have approached them to help them through MPs and state authorities to asphalt the Tomaševo - Sokolac road, nine kilometers long, and the Kovren - Gorice road, three kilometers long.
"When proposing the asphalting of local roads in the municipality of Bijelo Polje, the Mayor did not propose even a meter of asphalt in Vraneš for this year, when it is 39,7 percent of the territory of Bijelo Polje, and about 80 percent of the municipal timber mass participates in forest concessions - or 1,5 million euros per year (the municipality owns 70 percent, which amounts to over a million euros), of which Vraneš has received little or nothing for years," they said in the statement.
