The aircraft of the Montenegrin Army (VCG) represents a part of history, but also a confirmation of continuity and perseverance, said the Chief of the General Staff of the VCG, Miodrag Vuksanović.
He said this at a ceremony at the "Knjaz Danilo" Military Airport, which solemnly marked the Air Force Day of the Armed Forces of Montenegro.
As the Ministry of Defense reminded, Air Force Day is celebrated in memory of June 15, 1916, when Pavle Matanović became the first graduated Montenegrin military pilot, after completing his education in France.
"The aircraft of the Armed Forces of Montenegro represents a part of history, but also a confirmation of continuity and perseverance," said Vuksanović.
He emphasized that since the restoration of Montenegro's independence, important steps have been taken in the modernization of the Air Force and a new concept of use has been defined, in line with modern challenges.
"The Air Operations Center has been built, a unit of the Armed Forces of Montenegro that is integrated into NATO airspace surveillance systems and on combat duty 365 days a year," Vuksanović reminded.
He added that a new HR 3000 early warning radar has also been purchased, the installation of which will significantly improve airspace control capabilities.
Vuksanović also recalled that the protection of Montenegro's sovereignty has been further strengthened by the NATO "Air Policing" mission, as well as that new helicopters have been purchased and numerous exercises and training have been carried out.
"I would especially like to highlight the participation and contribution in numerous search and rescue operations, firefighting operations, as well as the excellent cooperation with state institutions, within which a large number of successful operations have been implemented to maintain safety and security," emphasized Vuksanović.
He said that much has been achieved, but that the Air Force faces new obligations and tasks.
"First of all, the installation of the radar at Zekova Glava, further development and implementation of the capability goals and development of the Montenegrin Air Force," Vuksanović stated.
He said he is confident that, as before, he will successfully complete all tasks.
Vuksanović announced significant investments in infrastructure and expansion of the aviation fleet by purchasing new aircraft.
The Acting Commander of the Air Force, Ljubinko Petić, emphasized that he is proud of the members of the Air Force because they perform a risky, but extremely honorable calling.
"Your effort, discipline, constant training and focus on progress make the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Montenegro a reliable and efficient pillar of national security," said Petić.
He added that the dedication, sacrifice and selfless commitment of Air Force members have contributed to the unit being recognized as a respectable partner and the main support in preserving the safe and secure lives of citizens.
As stated in the statement, at the end of the ceremony, the most deserving members of the Air Force were awarded with incentive measures, in recognition of their contribution and achieved results.
The statement added that the Air Force Day celebration was attended by representatives of the command staff and units of the Armed Forces of Montenegro, representatives of the Ministry of Defense, as well as numerous guests.
