Every twentieth resident of Pljevlja over the age of 15 has not completed or has incompletely completed primary school, and only every sixth has higher education.
This is shown by Monstat data from the latest census on the educational structure of the population aged 15 and over, according to the highest level of school completion.
The census collected data on “Highest level of education completed” for all citizens except for preschool children and primary school students. The highest level of education completed refers to the type of school from which a person acquired the highest level of education. This refers to education for which a certificate/diploma was obtained, regardless of whether it was a regular school, a school with a shortened adult program, or a special school.
Monstat data shows that in Pljevlja there are 212 citizens without school, and 920 of them have incomplete primary school education.
Also worrying is the fact that 4.631 residents, or every fifth citizen of Pljevlja, have only completed primary school.
Almost every other resident of Pljevlja over the age of 15, of whom there were 2023 in total in the 21.232 census, has completed some form of secondary school.
In the northernmost Montenegrin municipality, 11.888 residents have completed secondary school, and 207 are highly qualified workers.
There are 3.352 highly educated residents of Pljevlja, or every sixth resident of the industrial center of Montenegro.
The share of highly educated residents in the total population aged 15 and over in Pljevlja is 15,8 percent. Of the total number of highly educated people in Pljevlja, 1,8 percent are foreign citizens, which is a small number if this data is compared to Budva, where almost half of the highly educated population is foreign citizens, or 46,2 percent.
2.259 residents completed their primary studies in Pljevlja, and 633 completed higher education, or the first degree of a university.
237 people from Pljevlja have completed their master's degree, while there is no data on how many people who have completed their doctorate live in this city. This column states what the sign is that is placed when, as stated in the explanation of Monstat, data with an occurrence frequency of less than 10 are treated as protected. Other data are also marked with the same sign as protected data in order to prevent indirect recognition of census units (secondary protection).
Of the total population in Montenegro aged 15 and over, 90.819 or 17,8 percent have completed primary school, while 269.641 or 52,8 percent have completed secondary school.
In Montenegro, 94,3 percent of residents aged 20-24 have at least completed secondary education, while in European Union countries the average in 2023 was 84 percent.
26,2 percent of the population of Montenegro has higher education.
The highest share of people with a high level of education was recorded in the municipality of Budva at 39,9 percent, and the lowest in the municipality of Petnjica at 6,3 percent. In addition to Budva, Podgorica, Tivat, Kotor, Herceg Novi and Bar have a higher share of highly educated people than the average for Montenegro.
The highest level of education is in the 30-34 age group, where 45,7 percent of the population has a college education.
In Montenegro, 44,4 percent of the population aged 25-34 has higher education, while in EU countries the average in 2023 was 43 percent.
