An excavator operator was slightly injured in Pljevlja, after a sudden movement of the ground and the activation of a landslide occurred during regular work at the "Potrlica" mine on Sunday, June 15th in the afternoon, the Coal Mine announced.
"The landslide affected the clayey area and buried the machine. The excavator operator was evacuated from the scene with quick intervention and sustained minor injuries. The machinery (excavator) that was inside the activated mass at that moment suffered material damage," the statement reads.
A mining inspector has arrived at the scene, who will prepare an official report on the causes and consequences of the incident.
"We would like to point out that the overburden works are being carried out in difficult and high-risk conditions, primarily due to the immediate proximity of the existing Ćehotina riverbed. Neglecting the Ćehotina project in the previous period has led us to a situation where we are currently working in a high-risk zone, despite the implementation of all safety measures," RUP said.
"Therefore, we emphasize once again that the implementation of the project to relocate the Ćehotina river bed is of essential importance - both for the safety of workers and the continuation of production at the Pljevlja Coal Mine, as well as for the stability of Montenegro's electricity supply," the statement reads.
