In Nikšić, the share of highly educated residents in the total population aged 15 and over is 22 percent, while at the national level that percentage is 26,2 percent. The largest number of Nikšić residents have a high school diploma, 57,66 percent, while in Montenegro it is 52,8 percent.
This, according to Monstat data, was shown by the 2023 census.
The highest share of people with a high level of education was recorded in the municipality of Budva (39,9 percent), and the lowest in the municipality of Petnjica (6,3 percent). In addition to Budva, Podgorica, Tivat, Kotor, Herceg Novi and Bar have a higher share of highly educated people than the average for Montenegro.
Of the 54.796 residents of Nikšić aged 15 and over, 31.595 have completed secondary school, 606 have completed highly qualified, higher vocational school/master's exam, 9.116 have completed primary school, 977 have completed incomplete primary school, while 361 have no schooling.
When it comes to higher education, out of 12.058 university graduates from the Nikšić municipality, the majority have a bachelor's degree (8.273), followed by high school and first degree (1.749), specialist studies (948), master's studies (922) and doctorate (166). As for the structure of the highly educated population of the Nikšić municipality aged 15 and over by gender, 57,5 percent are female and 42,5 percent are male.
Of the total population of the municipality of Nikšić over the age of 15, 47,11 percent are computer literate (25.815), while the average at the state level is 49,84 percent.
Slightly more than every third resident of the municipality, 38,42 percent, is partially computer literate (21.053), while the national average is 37,03 percent. 7.849 residents of Nikšić do not know how to use a computer (14,32 percent), and in Montenegro, the computer illiterate population is 12,9 percent. Observed by municipalities, the highest percentage of computer literate population is in Budva, 67,48 percent, Tivat 63,18, and Podgorica 60,81 percent, while the lowest is in Petnjica, where 17,34 percent of the population is computer literate, followed by Gusinje 23,17 and Plužine 27,36 percent.
The residents of Nikšić are best at using the Internet (85,53 percent), and the weakest at programming (11,9 percent). Two-thirds of them (62,73 percent) use social networks, 58,1 percent of Nikšić residents aged 15 and over have an e-mail address, while 60,81 percent of them know how to work in Word, and 48,44 percent know how to work in Excel.
When it comes to foreign languages, slightly more than a third (34,18 percent) of residents of the municipality of Nikšić aged 15 and over know English, every tenth resident (10,14 percent) knows Russian, while the percentage of knowledge of other languages is below five percent: Italian (3,94 percent), German (2,28 percent), French (1,4 percent) and Spanish (0,67 percent).
The highest percentage of residents in Montenegro aged 15 and over knows English (37,97 percent), followed by Russian (7,46), followed by Italian (4,83) and German (3,72), while the lowest number of those who speak French (2,01) and Spanish (1,02 percent).
The share of residents who know English is highest in coastal municipalities, in Budva 54,06 percent, Kotor 54,05, Tivat 51,15, Herceg Novi 47,02, and then in Podgorica, 46,83 percent. The lowest share of English language knowledge is in Petnjica - 13,74 percent, Plužine 16,37 and Šavnik 17,54 percent.
The highest percentage of knowledge of the Russian language was recorded in the northern municipalities, namely in Žabljak - 18,27 percent, Mojkovac 15,67, Šavnik 15,43, Plužine 14,51 and Kolašin 13,25 percent, while the lowest percentage was in Rožaje 2,17, Tuzi 1,79, Ulcinj 1,57 and Gusinj 1,17 percent.
The highest percentage of Italian language knowledge is in Kotor - 14,88 percent, followed by Cetinje 9,42, Tivat 9,04, Herceg Novi 7,7 and Bar 6,76 percent. The highest percentage of German language knowledge is in Ulcinj - 12,12 percent, followed by Petnjica 9,05, Rožaje 8,54, Budva 6,36 and Berane 5,87 percent. The highest percentage of French language knowledge is in Petnjica - 4,57, followed by Kolašin 2,92 percent, Tivat 2,91, Cetinje 2,75 and Budva 2,67, while the highest percentage of Spanish language knowledge is in Kotor - 2,44 percent, Bar 1,57, Budva 1,53, then Podgorica 1,48 and Cetinje 1,39 percent.
