The capital city of Podgorica announced tonight that the office of Podgorica Mayor Saša Mujović has been receiving requests for days from residents of the Vrela Ribnička and Konik settlements to protect their property, health and, specifically, to engage a 24-hour police patrol from daily arson attacks.
The statement added that in this regard, the Capital, through a letter from the "Deponija" company, addressed the Police Directorate and the Ministry of Defense several months ago.
"We are already talking about a moment when we primarily need physical protection from unscrupulous citizens of Vrelo Ribnički who have been burning tires and installation cables for decades in order to sell the leftover copper and wire as secondary raw materials on the black market. We would like to point out that the Capital City, through the competent services, has been taking the necessary measures all the time, but we express our fear that we are only repairing the consequences of a serious systemic problem, decades-old established schemes and tacit agreements. In short, we are talking about violence, ecocide and criminal acts that we must jointly and decisively sanction," the statement from the Capital City states.
The institution said that a meeting between Mujović and representatives of the Police Directorate is planned for next Sunday, so that they can finally put a stop to this major decades-long problem through joint institutional action.
The fire that broke out today at around 15:15 p.m. in the settlement near the "Deponija" company in Podgorica has been extinguished.
