CZIP: Montenegro gets ObsMapp, an application that enables monitoring of birds and other groups of organisms

CZIP said that it is also very important that through the LIFE EBP project, local and national portals are connected to the central EuroBird Portal, which, as CZIP said, has not been the case for the countries of Southeastern Europe so far.

Montenegro is receiving ObsMapp, a free application that enables monitoring of birds, as well as other groups of organisms, and which has been the official application of the Center for the Protection and Study of Birds (CZIP) for ten years when it comes to monitoring the bird world, CZIP announced today.

"What is new is that in the future we will be able to create 'projects' through the application, which involves defining different types of data depending on the methodology, and this allows us to adapt and use the application for different types of monitoring. The most important thing is that the application is free, which can significantly contribute to saving financial resources that have so far been allocated for the needs of other applications when it comes to monitoring, especially in the process of establishing the Natura 2000 network," the CZIP statement states.

The non-governmental organization (NGO) added that the fact that through the LIFE EBP project, local and national portals are connected to the central EuroBird Portal is also very important, which, as CZIP said, has not been the case for the countries of Southeast Europe so far.

"This portal allows you to track bird migration, by species, in real time, as you can see by visiting the website - https://eurobirdportal.org"A large number of users, a small number of locals and a large number of people visiting Montenegro, significantly contribute to the improvement of the national database, both qualitatively and quantitatively. It is not uncommon to find data entries on rare species, most often with photographs as evidence," said CZIP.

They state that the statistics on the portal for Montenegro, to date, are as follows - 139.143 pieces of data, 32.958 photos and 1.001 observers, i.e. people who entered data in Montenegro.

"The application and portal were presented to representatives of the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Parks of Montenegro," the CZIP statement reads.

"The activities are being implemented as part of the project 'Improving the capacity of the EuroBirdPortal project to increase its contribution to EU policy objectives under the Birds Directive and the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2030', abbreviated as 'LIFE EBP reinforcement' (project 101104367 — LIFE22-PLP-ES-EBP reinforcement), whose main goal is to improve the quantity and quality of bird data in Europe in order to improve their contribution to EU policy objectives under the Birds Directive and the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2030", said CZIP.
