MUP: Lighting fires outdoors is strictly prohibited

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP), due to high temperatures and the risk of fire, announced that lighting fires outdoors is strictly prohibited and called on citizens to be responsible.

The Ministry of Interior said that the high temperatures recorded throughout Montenegro these days pose a real risk of fire in open spaces.

They stated that, taking into account the risk of fire and potential dangers to the environment, overall biodiversity and human lives, the Ministry of Interior's Protection and Rescue Directorate and other entities in the protection and rescue system are taking all necessary measures and actions to minimize the fire risk.

"These activities will be daily and will last until the end of the fire season, that is, until October 1," the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.

They reminded that lighting fires in open spaces is strictly prohibited and that it is necessary to additionally arrange and mow private properties, especially in rural areas and around buildings that are abandoned or rarely occupied.

"The use of pyrotechnic devices (firecrackers, fireworks, etc.) is prohibited without prior consent from the competent authority, in accordance with applicable legal regulations," the statement says.

It is added that it is necessary to respect orders prohibiting the lighting of open fires, issued by local governments.

"The Ministry of Interior's Protection and Rescue Directorate will permanently monitor the situation on the ground and, together with other entities in the system, react in accordance with available resources and prescribed procedures," the statement said.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs called on citizens to contribute to the mission of forest preservation through partnership, and if they notice a fire, to call the single European emergency number 112 or the municipal protection and rescue services number 123.

It is stated that timely information is the basis for an efficient and rapid response by the competent services.

"Let's be responsible and not allow ourselves to destroy our natural wealth through carelessness," the Ministry of Interior's statement concludes.
