In order to reduce illegal parking, and in accordance with the Decision on the organization and performance of entrusted tasks of moving and holding vehicles, the Municipal Police of the Municipality of Kotor has begun trial use of devices for blocking car wheels, so-called claws, the head of this service, Vesna Balandžić, told Radio Kotor.

When installing a wheel locking device on a vehicle, which prevents it from being driven away, a notice is left stating that the vehicle is temporarily blocked, with instructions on what the driver should do to remove the device and a warning that the vehicle may be moved.

"When the driver, or rather the vehicle owner, settles the outstanding claims, more precisely pays the misdemeanor warrant and submits proof of payment, the municipal police officer will enable the vehicle to be taken over," said Balandžić, adding that the fine for illegal parking for individuals ranges from 60 to 100 euros.

She estimates that by using means to block the movement of vehicles, the so-called claws, communal order in the city will be improved.

"Especially in frequented locations near the Old Town and in Perast. On this occasion, we appeal to citizens and tourists to park their vehicles properly in the designated parking spaces so as not to obstruct the movement of vehicles and pedestrians," says Balandžić.

The municipal police recently received two new vehicles, and now has four.

"With the purchase of two new vehicles, working conditions have significantly improved, especially with the purchase of a Dacia, which allows us to reach even more inaccessible terrain," Balandžić told Radio Kotor.
