Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development Damjan Ćualfić called on citizens to respect the ban on lighting fires in the open, stating that it is not an administrative act, but a concrete measure for nature protection.
Ćulafić said that the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development, in cooperation with all relevant institutions, will carefully monitor the situation on the ground and will be part of the solution.
"Under the onslaught of increasingly intense heat waves, Montenegro is once again facing a challenge that is not only security-related, but also ecological," said Ćulafić.
He reminded that in summer, even the smallest spark can be enough to cause a disaster and to lose forests that have grown for decades, homes of numerous species, and the peace of villages and towns.
"I call on all citizens to respect the ban on lighting fires outdoors as prescribed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs," said Ćulafić.
As he pointed out, this ban is not an administrative act, but a concrete measure to protect the most valuable resource - nature.
"By not respecting these measures, we risk losing much more than forest areas, we are losing oxygen, natural air filters, habitats for wild species, but also a sense of security," Ćulafić emphasized.
As he stated, if we can't influence the weather, we can influence our own behavior.
"The Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development will, in cooperation with all relevant institutions, carefully monitor the situation on the ground and be part of the solution," Ćulafić emphasized.
He added that true protection begins where the decision is made not to light a fire and to clean the environment.
