Several fires broke out today in the afternoon hours in the areas of Podgorica, Tuzi and Zeta, due to strong winds and extremely high temperatures that hit Montenegro.
The fires covered large areas, and in Tuzi and the Kokoti settlement, houses and commercial buildings were endangered.
Thanks to the quick intervention of firefighters from Podgorica, as well as their colleagues from Bar and Nikšić who came to their aid, major damage was prevented. The fire was brought under control around 17 p.m.
Television Vijesti reported earlier today that firefighters are extinguishing large-scale fires at several locations in Podgorica.
Kokotsko polje was burning, where members of the Capital City Protection and Rescue Service saved over 100 houses, and the fire threatened to engulf the vineyards of the "Plantaže" company in Ćemovsko polje.

The fire also engulfed a large area between Tuzi, Milješi and Karabuško Polje. The Podgorica Protection Service said that one car burned down in that area.
"The cause is the human factor, this cannot be any other cause. There were eight vehicles at this location at one time with 16 firefighters and they took turns because we had locations that were burning simultaneously in Botun and Kokoti, a large fire in Ljajkovići. Certainly, close to 30 firefighters and 15 vehicles were active, with the Barani coming to our aid at this location. The people of Nikšić are already in Podgorica. We defended a large number of houses, we defended the sawmill. We defended part of the factory that deals with carpentry," Dragan Stojanović from the Podgorica Protection and Rescue Service told Vijesti Television.
All fires were brought under control around 17 p.m.

The Fire Protection Service and the Mayor of Podgorica, Saša Mujović, once again ask citizens to refrain from all actions that may contribute to the spread of the fire, but also to report all irresponsible individuals.
