Even after three days since the Institute of Public Health of Montenegro (IJZCG) announced that the water in Ulcinj, due to the presence of nitrites, is not suitable for drinking or any use in food, or even for brushing teeth, eating fruits and vegetables, or bathing children, citizens and tourists do not know whether the irregularities have been eliminated and when the "tap water" will be safe again.
Director of Water and Sewerage LLC The verse of Zaga He said that he expects the results of the new water analysis from the Institute today.
"We have taken all measures and I believe that the results will be different from those on Friday, that is, that the water will be safe to drink," Zaga told "Vijesti".
The Institute of Public Health of Montenegro said on Friday that such a situation occasionally occurs due to specific changes in water supply or natural conditions, and that it is not uncommon.
"However, in order to protect health - especially sensitive groups such as young children - it is important that the water is temporarily not used for consumption, including cooking, because nitrites are not removed by heat treatment. Also, brushing teeth, fruits and vegetables, as well as bathing young children with this water is not recommended, due to possible accidental ingestion. The competent services are already on the ground and are taking all necessary measures to normalize the water quality as soon as possible. Citizens will be informed of all changes in a timely manner," the Public Health Institute announced on Friday.
Nitrites are chemical compounds that are formed as an intermediate product in the process of decomposition of nitrogenous substances, and in nature and water they can appear due to fecal pollution, decomposition of organic matter, problems in the water purification system...
As announced by the Tourist Organization (TO) on Friday, 13 thousand guests are officially staying in Ulcinj, but on weekends that number is proverbially much higher.
