Citizen of Azerbaijan B.R, an employee of a delivery company, in whose possession police found a gun in May, was sentenced to a maximum prison sentence of three years.
He is a judge at the Basic Court in Podgorica. Borko Lončar, in addition to the prison sentence, he also imposed security measures: confiscation of items and expulsion from the country for a period of five years.
In May of this year, during a search of an apartment in the Malo Brdo neighborhood used by an Azerbaijani, the police found an olive-green cannon shell filled with 65 grams of gunpowder.
Allegedly, a gas mask, a stun gun, and a metal box were also found on BR, and according to operational data, he was planning thefts, even of religious objects.
On June 11th of this year, the Basic Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica filed an indictment against the defendant BR, charging him with the criminal offense of illegal possession and carrying of weapons and explosives.
BR allegedly said during the hearing, among other things, that he did not recognize the court for religious reasons.
The Police Directorate announced last week that in the first six months of this year, they found and seized 771 weapons, 202 explosive devices and 36.021 pieces of ammunition.
They announced that in order to raise the level of security, through intersectoral, inter-agency, proactive, preventive and repressive activities aimed at preventing destructive actions, violence, misuse of firearms and narcotics, they carried out 2.335 searches of persons, vehicles, apartments and other premises, on various grounds, which is the result of continuous and intensive work to suppress all forms of crime and preserve the safety of citizens.
The Police Directorate said that through the activities of criminal police officers, they conducted 1.415 searches of apartments, people and vehicles and found 400 weapons, 202 explosive devices and 13.923 pieces of ammunition of various types and calibers.
"General police officers conducted 870 searches of apartments, people and vehicles, and on that occasion found and seized 346 firearms and 18.982 pieces of ammunition," the Police Directorate said.
Taking measures and actions within their jurisdiction, police officers of the Border Police Sector conducted a total of 50 searches and seized 25 weapons and 1.268 pieces of ammunition.
"Through the preventive activities of the Police Directorate within the "Respect Life, Return Weapons" campaign, where citizens are continuously invited to voluntarily, without legal consequences, hand over weapons, ammunition and explosives to the police, as of June 24, 2025, 3.707 weapons, 123.266 pieces of ammunition, 421 hand grenades, as well as several hundred parts of weapons and explosives have been returned," the Police Directorate states.
