The Trade Union of the Police Administration of Montenegro has strongly condemned, as they said, the violent behavior of a group of citizens at yesterday's event that took place in Podgorica, in front of the protected building Vila Gorica.
"Illegally, via social media, a group of citizens scheduled a protest in front of the Vila Gorica facility, which the Police Directorate was providing security for in accordance with its legal obligation.
"Instead of peacefully gathering and expressing dissatisfaction, as required by law, individuals from the gathered group caused incidents by attacking police officers, attempting to forcefully break through the police cordon and prevent the state ceremony from taking place," the union said in a statement.
It is added that six police officers suffered physical injuries on that occasion.
"Given that a spray with an irritating effect was used against the attackers in the conflict, as the mildest means of coercion that does not leave lasting consequences for health and the body, the Police Directorate officers used the minimum means permitted by law (physical force) and avoided major incidents and consequences that could have occurred," the union points out.
The Police Administration Union has announced that it is demanding that state authorities impose the harshest punishment on the organizers of illegal gatherings and perpetrators of attacks on police officers.
"The state must make it clear to everyone that the Police are the pillar of the state, which has a legal obligation to preserve public order and the health of all citizens of Montenegro, regardless of their national, religious or racial affiliation.
"The Union will provide all legal and other assistance to the injured officers, depending on their expressed needs," concludes the statement signed by the president of the Police Administration Union, Mladen Šuškavčević.
