Today's commemoration of the thirty years since the genocide in Srebrenica is an opportunity to pay tribute to the victims and share the pain with their families in silence and with deep reverence, said Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović.
The tribute at the Potočari Memorial Center, which Milatović attended, is not just an act of remembrance, but a moral obligation, a human and civilizational vow that a crime of such proportions will never happen again, anywhere, and to anyone, the President's Office announced.
"The genocide in Srebrenica, confirmed before the highest international courts and recognized within international organizations, remains a permanent warning to the modern world. Remembering the victims, with dignity and truth, is the foundation of every sincere reconciliation and every responsible policy. In this moment of silence, it is important to know that the culture of memory is not directed towards the past, but towards the future, one in which truth, justice and human dignity form the basis of a common life. The obligation of every democratic society and every person is to preserve the memory of Srebrenica, not as a burden, but as an obligation, to never forget, to never repeat it," said Milatović.
