Slavka Adžović from Nikšić seems destined for trouble. On Sunday, July 6, in Krnovo, where it rises every year, her cow disappeared. She reported the case to the police, and as she said, she "spoiled" herself for the umpteenth time to "Vijesti", because it seems to her that she is feeling better, that her suffering will "pain the authorities" and that she will finally be able to take a break from all the problems she has been stoically fighting for a decade.
"I always get up around four and a half, five o'clock and first I deal with the cows. That morning, my sister Nada and I spent the whole day, until five in the afternoon, digging the garden and potatoes. When we finished work, I sent my nephew to let the cows out to pasture. He came and said that he had let all the cows out, except for one that was missing. He found the stake, but not the rope and the cow," says the only Roma woman in Montenegro, and beyond, who has been engaged in livestock farming for decades.
On Monday, she reported the cow missing to the police, and since Sunday, she and her sister have been trying to find it, but to no avail.
"I gave a statement to the police and they told me to let them know if I found out anything new about the cow. The police did not come to investigate. This is the third cow that I have in Krnovo that has either been killed or disappeared. The cow was supposed to have calved in August. For the damage that was caused to me, I could have bought the missing machinery," says Adžović.
She has been the target of malicious people for years, her barn was set on fire, her cows were killed, her lambs were slaughtered, her hay was burned several times, as was the caravan she lived in. Her hut and three outbuildings burned down in Krnovo, her dogs slaughtered and scattered more than 50 of her sheep... No one has ever found the perpetrators.
"I don't know what else to do. And I'm struggling. I'm aware that others have problems, but it seems like no one is like me. My mother is sick, and has been in the hospital for about ten days, and my deaf-mute uncle who helps me is also sick. Somehow I manage to solve all my problems, I can't seem to cope with these hardships and adversities."
She has 20 large cattle and more than 150 small cattle, and they cause her more trouble than pleasure, she says.
"I ask the state, local government, police, all authorities to react and finally find the perpetrators or perpetrator, but also to pay me compensation, because I can't stand this anymore. I have never received compensation, and I have suffered so much damage. I don't know what to do. I will continue to fight, but I am ashamed that I tell journalists about my misfortunes every now and then. And I would like to talk only about the good."
