The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, on behalf of the citizens of Montenegro and on his own behalf, expressed his deepest condolences to the family, friends and all admirers of the work of Aleksandar Čilikov.
"I received with sadness the news of the death of Academician Aleksandar Čilikov, one of our most prominent art historians and a tireless guardian of Montenegrin cultural heritage," Milatović wrote on the Iks network.
He said that Aleksandar Čilikov's life's work, accumulated over decades of dedicated work, left a deep mark on the preservation of Montenegro's cultural heritage.
"His contribution to the affirmation of the values of multiculturalism, open society and civic character of Montenegro remains a lasting inspiration in efforts to preserve, protect and advance the cultural heritage of Montenegro, as a common foundation of our national identity. On behalf of the citizens of Montenegro and on my own behalf, I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends and all admirers of his work," Milatović said.
Renowned Montenegrin art historian and art critic, academician of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts (CANU), Aleksandar Saša Čilikov, passed away today at the age of 75.
Čilikov made an immeasurable contribution to the study and preservation of the cultural heritage of Montenegro, and his work remains an important foundation for scholarly interpretations of Montenegrin artistic practice and tradition.
