The unpleasant scenes we saw last night in the stands of the City Stadium in Podgorica are deeply concerning and absolutely unacceptable. There is no place for violence on sports fields, stadiums must be a space of togetherness, cheering and support, not conflict, the Ministry of Sports and Youth said.
"The performance of the Buducnost football players deserves every praise - they showed fighting spirit and team spirit, which should be the focus of every sporting event. We must work together to create a healthy and safe environment at all sporting events, where fans will be a true force at the back of their clubs, and not a threat to sportsmanship and safety," the government department headed by Dragoslav Šćekić said in a statement.
The ministry called on sports teams, fan groups and all stakeholders in sports life to take responsibility and actively participate in creating a safe and dignified environment at all sports events.
"Violence will not stop us, but will further motivate us to persevere in the fight for the culture of sports that all citizens of Montenegro deserve," the statement concludes.
