RTCG Director General Boris Raonić announced that if the verdict of the Basic Court in Podorica becomes final, his term as head of the Public Media Service will end.
The Basic Court in Podgorica annulled the decision to appoint Raonić as the General Director of RTCG from September last year as unlawful. Judge Katarina Janković accepted the lawsuit filed by Andrijana Kadija and Žarko Božović, ordering RTCG to issue a new and legally based decision on the selection of the General Director from among the candidates who met the requirements of the Public Competition from July 2024, within eight days from the date the judgment became final.
Raonic's statement regarding the first-instance verdict of the Basic Court in Podgorica was published by the RTCG portal.
"Respect for institutions and the legal order is not a phrase for me, but a principle. I will accept every final decision of the competent authority responsibly and in accordance with the law, meaning that if such a verdict becomes final, my mandate at the head of RTCG is over, proud of everything we have achieved so far. I assume that an appeals procedure will follow," said Raonić.
He added that he believes "this verdict cannot become final."
"Because I expect the appeals process to take into account arguments and case law, including cases from RTCG itself, where actual performance of duties was recognized as relevant experience. RTCG must remain a strong, independent and professional public service, dedicated to the truth, public interest and the development of society. The institution must be more important than the function, and the principle than the moment - that is the only way forward," said Raonić.
