The Šavnik Municipality Day was marked by the awarding of the highest municipal award, certificates of appreciation, and a ceremonial session.
The President of the Municipality of Šavnik, Jugoslav Jakić, emphasized that this is one of the most significant dates in this region when the people of Šavnik stood up against the occupiers.
"We are proud to be part of this geographical area marked by history and a tradition of freedom. Šavnik has a special place on the map of Montenegro. We must justify the honorable name that our ancestors won for us, and therefore every step must be responsible, courageous and strong enough, especially in the current political circumstances and challenges that we face as a community. Following such an ideal, I can say with full responsibility that we were worthy of the significance of the challenges that lay ahead of us and that our policy on this path is clear, and therefore every step we take is a step towards the development of Šavnik and a better future for the citizens of Šavnik. Our work is certainly visible, and the results and long-term goals that we are working hard on, we will live together and summarize in the near future," said Jakić.
He reminded us of what has been done in the municipality since the previous holiday, which projects are currently being implemented and which will be implemented, he praised the good tourist season and said that in the coming period they will continue to work responsibly and with quality for the good of all the residents of Šavnik.
At the session, the highest municipal award was presented to General Zoran Lazarević, the former Chief of the General Staff, for the selfless help and support he provided during the floods that hit the municipality. Letters of appreciation were also presented to members of the Protection and Rescue Service, Radojica Ćirović, Radenko Zarubica, Slobodan Đurđić and Stefan Drinčić, who showed exceptional courage when rescuing a fellow citizen after a traffic accident. A letter of appreciation was also presented to the company "Bemax" for the help provided during the floods, but also for the continuous assistance it provides to the municipality of Šavnik.
Lazarević expressed his gratitude on behalf of the awardees and pointed out that during his 35-year long military career, he received numerous state and international awards that have both "weight and gratitude towards the people", who, by awarding him the awards, recognized his work and contribution to the community, but that the recognition of the Municipality of Šavnik has a special brilliance and beauty for several reasons.
"First, because I receive recognition from those closest to me, from people from my area, and they rightly say that such recognitions have the most beautiful value. Secondly, I receive the recognition at the end of my military career as recognition for everything I have done and for always presenting myself as a Durmitor and a Šavnik resident, even when many in the former Yugoslavia had not heard of Godijelje, and to a lesser extent, Šavnik," said Lazarević.
He emphasized that he was always ready to provide support to all municipalities, and that Šavnik has always been a special emotion for him, and that he sees the recognition as recognition to all the soldiers of Montenegro who, unlike other state institutions, always knew how much their little means to Šavnik.
"As a proven anti-fascist, I see the Oslobodjenje Šavnik Award as confirmation of my commitments, as confirmation to me and my family that we have always been in the right place of value," the general emphasized and urged the president of the Šavnik Municipality and the entire local government to work for the good of the residents of that region.
The program, hosted by Dragan Mitov Đurović, premiered the documentary film "When Stone and Soul Speak", by Siniša Adamović, and the choir "Vokalisti" and the cultural association "Ramadan Šarkić" from Tuzi took part in the program.
