The Kotor board of the Europe Now Movement clearly and unequivocally opposes the idea of organizing any referendum in the Bay of Kotor on the issue of Kotor's status on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Kotor PES announced.
"The fact that Kotor is under UNESCO protection represents an unquestionable cultural and civilizational value of global importance, which no one may question - neither politically nor communally," the statement reads.
They add that the development and infrastructure issues of Kotor and the Bay of Kotor are important and require a serious approach, but solutions must be sought within a framework that includes the preservation of cultural and historical heritage.
"Sustainable development cannot and must not be an excuse for suppressing the values that define us in the eyes of the world. The Europe Now movement remains committed to a policy of responsible development, which implies a balance between the needs of modern life and the preservation of the heritage that belongs to this and future generations," the statement said.
