Women's Club of the Parliament: Attacks on Kordić are not only attacks on her personality, but also on the institutions of Montenegro

As the Women's Club, we clearly and decisively raise our voice against hate speech directed at any woman, the Women's Club of the Parliament of Montenegro announced today.

Members of the Women's Club of the Parliament of Montenegro have strongly condemned any form of insulting and belittling of women, their colleagues, who hold public offices in Montenegro.

"As the Women's Club, we clearly and resolutely raise our voice against hate speech directed at any woman. We believe that such negative patterns of behavior must be systematically recognized and resolutely eradicated. The latest in a series of such attacks is directed at the Minister of Tourism, Ms. Simonida Kordić, who has been exposed to brutal, vulgarly intoned and verbally aggressive attacks by individuals via social media," the statement said.

According to them, such outbursts represent not only an attack on the personality of Minister Kordić, but also on the institutions of the state of Montenegro, as well as on fundamental social values that should be based on mutual respect, a culture of dialogue and the protection of the dignity of every citizen.

They added that "we must not allow any woman in Montenegro to be exposed to violence, insults or threats."

"We call on the Police Directorate and the competent Prosecutor's Office to immediately identify and prosecute those responsible for these shameful attacks. It is unacceptable that such behavior is tolerated and that any woman in Montenegro is exposed to violence, insults and threats, just because she performs a public function. We expect the competent institutions to urgently take all necessary measures so that the perpetrators are adequately sanctioned and a clear message is sent to the public: there is no place for violence, insults and degradation of women's dignity in Montenegro," the statement of the Women's Club of the Parliament of Montenegro concludes.
