The Municipality of Mojkovac is initiating the process of establishing the public institution Mojkovac Museum, which, as announced by the local administration, "opens a new chapter in the preservation of local cultural heritage, history and identity."

Mojkovac is among the few municipalities in Montenegro without a city museum, which, as the president of the Municipal Assembly tells "Vijesti", is the case. Marko Janketić, jeopardized the preservation of valuable artifacts, especially those from the archaeological site of Brskovo and the site of the Battle of Mojkovac.

"Without such an important institution as the city museum, our history, traditions, artifacts and stories risk being lost or forgotten. Numerous objects from the archaeological site of Brskovo and the sites where the timeless Battle of Mojkovac took place are scattered in cultural institutions of other municipalities and private museum collections. In cooperation with relevant experts in the field of museology, we have begun this large, complex and long-term process," says Janketić.

The Assembly should adopt a feasibility study for the establishment of the institution, and then make a formal decision on its establishment. The museum should play a vital role in collecting, preserving and presenting cultural assets, encouraging education, strengthening a common identity and developing tourism.

It is planned that the museum will be located in the city center, with modern conditions for storing and displaying exhibits.

"Museum material with museum documentation located at the Center for Archaeological Research of Montenegro, museums in Berane and Bijelo Polje, as well as private collections that the owners are transferring to the future museum in Mojkovac, provide the minimum conditions for establishing an independent public institution for carrying out museum activities, with the prospect of further development," says Janketić.

Financing will be provided from the municipal budget, own revenues, donations and other sources, and funds for the start of work have been provided by the budget rebalance.
