The Directorate for Protection and Rescue of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) donated equipment worth 30 thousand euros to five voluntary fire departments (DVD) from the Boka Kotorska area.

The equipment, as announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, was donated to the fire departments of Tivat, Boka, Krtoli, Perast and Luštica, and the handover took place at the headquarters of the Krtoli Volunteer Fire Department.

"The donation includes 25 outdoor firefighting kits (helmets, caps, gloves, overalls and work shoes), 75 fire hoses, 50 backpacks, 50 flails, as well as a submersible pump and two generators that the companies will use together," the statement said.

The Director General of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue, Miodrag Bešović, said that he was pleased that the Ministry of the Interior was able to help firefighters who voluntarily make their capacities available and represent a great support for the protection and rescue system on the Montenegrin coast.

"We hope that this donation will also mobilize other entities and motivate them to provide assistance in strengthening the capacities of these societies, and the assistance of the Ministry of the Interior does not end here. We have already shown our willingness to work through dialogue on improving legal solutions that will aim to improve their status," said Bešović.

Ivan Starčević from DVD Krtoli thanked for the donated equipment and said that the Directorate for Protection and Rescue of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is one of the rare entities in the system that recognizes how important it is for firefighters to have quality equipment and to be adequately prepared for emergencies.

The Ministry of the Interior said that, as part of the visit, Bešović also visited DVD Krtoli member Igor Nikolić, who was recently injured while fighting a fire in Luštica.

The statement says that the Ministry of Interior will continue to improve the protection and rescue system in the coming period through modernization of equipment, training, and strengthening cooperation with local communities.

It is stated that DVDs have a special significance, both because of their long tradition in southern Montenegro, and because of their immeasurable role in preserving human lives, cultural and historical heritage, and the safety of communities.
