The state of Montenegro, and especially the Ministry of Diaspora, recognizes the role of the diaspora and wants to build partnerships even more strongly, said the relevant Minister Mirsad Azemović.
The central celebration of Diaspora Day in Gusinje was held last night at Alipaša Square, symbolically on August 5th - Municipality Day.
Azemović, as announced by the Ministry of Diaspora, greeted "thousands of people from Gusinje who are currently staying in their homeland."
He said that Gusinje is a city that "carries the strength, soul and dignity of a people scattered throughout the world", but always deeply attached to that region.
"Today is an opportunity to point out the importance of the diaspora for this region. Our people in the diaspora have preserved the Gusinje word, pride, customs and, most importantly, love for the homeland in distant lands. Despite the distances, you have never forgotten where you came from. Every visit to Gusinje, every investment, every scholarship you give to young people from this region, speaks more than words - it speaks of belonging, responsibility and love," said Azemović.
He said that Gusinje has a bright future.
"My mission as a minister is to listen to you, to be open to initiatives and to work together – not just symbolically, but concretely. That is why today I am sending a clear message – the doors of our country are wide open to you. Your ideas, investments, knowledge and experiences are welcome. Today, more than ever, we need unity – the unity of local and displaced people of Gusinje in the vision of progress, development and preservation of identity. Let this Municipal Day be a reminder that together we can do more, and that Gusinje has a bright future – because it has you. Thank you for everything you do for your homeland. Long live Gusinje! Long live Montenegro", said Azemović.
The President of the Municipality of Gusinje, Sanel Balić, said that the diaspora is the "lifeblood" of Gusinje and expressed his gratitude to all Gusinje residents around the world for "everything they do for their hometown."
A musical program was also organized as part of the central celebration.
